Dr. Shashi Sewsurn

Dr. SHASHI SEWSURN has spent 26 years in Mauritius, was initially a private practitioner before joining Victoria Hospital as an oncologist. She is the Consultant in Charge (Radiotherapy) at the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology of Victoria Hospital. She is also the Head of Cancer Centre in Mauritius), which englobes Jeetoo Hospital, SSR Hospital, JNH Souillac Hospital, Rodrigues, Comoros, Centers, as well as welcoming patients from Madagascar, India, Bangladesh. Our Laudable NEW CANCER CENTER is in full swing near completion. She dreams of quality health care in a cost-effectiveway

She served as REGIONAL HEALTH DIRECTOR at DR.A.G. JEETOO HOSPITAL at PORT LOUIS. It'sthe first time LADY DOCTOR occupied this pivotal post. She is grateful to Authorities for the Trust placedin her credentials.Dr. Shashi, alongside a team of 13 radiation and clinical oncologists, 1 medical oncologist, 8 medical health officers. 15 Hospital physicists, 10 radiation technologists, 19 technology students and team of dedicated nursing staffs serve the center and attends to more than 30,000 cases every year. It includes 200 patients every day, 50 chemotherapy and more than 110 in-patients. It is also a daunting task to attend to more than 1500 new cases every year and it is on increasing trend.

Our dream, "New Cancer Center" project with state of Art Technologies is still under construction and partially operational. Out-patient, In-patient Services, chemotherapy day care services are in full swing. This center will immensely benefit our cancer patients and population at large.

In attempt to increase awareness on the different types of Cancer, Dr Shashi provides benevolent support to organizations such as Link to Life, Rotary Clubs, Art of Living, Oncology Society. She actively participates in Cancer Screening Programmes and health camps as well as provided lectures on Cancer at different Social Community Centres. Her views and opinions are often covered by the media.

She is gold medallist academically, she is honoured as "100 Most Influential Women" in Mauritius 2017, 2018 (Hall of Fame), Women of the Year 2020,2019,2020,2021.Promising Indian African Award 2019,2018, Promising Indian Awards New Delhi, India 2019,2018,2017, 7thWorld Women Leadership Congress &Awards-Pioneering Woman LeaderMumbai, India 2020.
