Shobu Kapoor

British Actress

Shobu was born in Mumbai and travelled all over India as a child, as her father was an officer in the Indian Navy. She moved to the UK in 1988 and started her acting career after attending drama school in London. In 1992, she landed the major role of Gita Kapoor on the BBC1 flagship soap opera, Eastenders.

She played Gita for over five years and became a household name in the country. More recently she has played the role of Mrs Khan in the BBC1 sitcom, Citizen Khan. Shobu is also a writer and poet andfrom 2013 to 2016, she headed up her film company, Roman Candle Productions. The company's first short film, Scarlet, won a screenwriting award at the Mumbai Film Festival. Shobu is now branching out into the world of music, composing lyrics and creating a show, which will introduce both her poetry and lyrics to a live audience. Watch this space!
